In this scene Pollen observes that even though there are people trying to hurt him, there are also people trying to protect him.  Doctor Shawna, shown with Pollen, is one of the protectors. 

Doctor Shawna is even willing to give her life if necessary in the defense of Pollen.  She has fallen in love with Pollen and her instinct to protect is in full force.  Pollen, upon observing her love comes to the conclusion that there is hope for the human race.  They can learn to change before it’s too late.
