Chapter one begins by saying “sparkling lakes and streams, a small but very regal looking waterfall, and gorgeous green vegetation made up the Edenic landscape. The air smelled clean, and you could almost taste the freshness of it. Life here was always in perfect harmony, as the higher powers that be intended.”
I thought what a lovely beginning to such a beautiful book. However as I read on that peaceful world is destroyed as some mean characters come to life. This part reflects man’s greed and lack of respect for nature.
Woodcutters have invaded the beautiful valley and the peacefulness is broken by the sound of falling trees. The men laugh and discuss how each fallen tree can give them money.
These characters are easy to hate and you feel so sorry for the destruction of the woodlands. All of this is so cleverly put together by the author that you must read it to really understand.
It seems help is at hand for the defenceless trees when a voice calls out to leave them alone.
Can this little man who goes by the name of Reb Brown save the trees? I was really interested and had to read on. Every part of me was behind Reb willing him to win the fight for victory for the poor trees.
During the next few sections Reb constantly questions why man has become so cruel and thoughtless. To cut down a tree that has seen a million sunrises and lived a thousand years is pure wickedness.
The men laugh off the old man’s pleas and wield their chainsaws like weapons. Reb comes to realize more destruction has occurred when he notices the valley has been flooded. Dynamite had been placed in the dam and now the whole valley seems like a large lake. Man’s bad traits never seem to end.
However out of this utter lack of respect for nature comes an angel from the far reaches of space called Pollen and he intends to save the earth. With a team of friends and one powerful, living ring he journeys across America to deliver a message to the President and to the world.
Yet it seems even with the most powerful of rings unless humans learn to respect earth there may be no hope left.
A lovely story of nature, harmony, man’s footprints and how all of it can hang in the balance.
This has been written to try and raise awareness of our carbon footprints and our impact on the world.
